Did you ever meet a superior mixologist who did not have a great sense of humor, too? Tim Federle is a funny man who knows how to concoct a beverage that will capture your attention.

Tim is fond of puns, which can be a dangerous thing for some him. No danger for him, his first effort in this line was Tequila Mockingbird. Mockingbird was a fun read and very drinkable.

Tim is back with Gone with the Gin. There are 50 cocktails here divided into chapters by movie type: Dramas, Comedies, Thrillers, Musicals, and Sci-Fi and Fantasy. Tim takes real movies from those categories, makes some “adjustment” to the title and then fashions an inspired, new beverage.

Here are some sample drinks to marvel and to please:

A Sidecar Named Desire

Gone with the Gin

Whiskey Business

Sloppy in Seattle

Daiq to the Future

Jurassic Port

West Cider Story

Your lips should be curled into a smile by now. And, when you make these cocktails, your lips will smacking. In 1982 Harrison Ford appeared in the iconic Sci Fi film Blade Runner. You just have to change a couple of letters to get Tim’s Blade Rummer. Consider this amalgam of flavors:

Blade Rummer:

  • 1 orange slice
  • 1 pineapple wedge
  • 1 cherry
  • 1 ounce spiced rum
  • 1 ounce light rum
  • 1 ounce raspberry liqueur
  • 1 ounce creme de banane liqueur

This is a typical recipe: several ingredients, lots of complementary booze flows, and a final flavor that is hard, at least for me, to imagine. The only resolution is to make this and give it a test run. There are 50 test run laps in this book. You will enjoy them all. And, you’ll be smiling all the way
