Pizza and Wine Class

by Suzi on January 11th, 2009 in Cooking Events No Comments

cb_pizza-sliceitTired of waiting for the delivery guy to bring you a cold and soggy pizza? Come to Cooking by the Book for a fun and relaxing evening of pizza making and wine tasting. Italian wine and food experts Charles and Michele Scicolone, authors of the acclaimed cookbook Pizza: Anyway You Slice It! will teach you the secrets of the Neapolitan pizzaioli and how to make great pizza at home. As Amanda Hesser wrote about their book in The New York Times, “If you use good quality ingredients and follow the instructions carefully, you find that the recipes are superb.”

Michele and Charles will demonstrate several variations on authentic Neapolitan style pizza including the classic Margherita and Marinara; plus Sicilian style sfinciuni and an easy make ahead pan pizza. We will enjoy the pizzas paired with several of Charles’ favorite pizza-friendly wines.

Hands-On Cooking Class with James Peterson

by Suzi on January 5th, 2009 in Cooking Events 1 Comment

To celebrate our 20th year in business and in response to many requests, Cooking by the Book is bringing back our original hands-on classic Cookbook Events.

Cooking by the Book began with a very simple idea: Cooking together is fun!

Back in 1989 we invited people to come into our kitchen to cook together and eat what they created, our spin was to use a celebrated cookbook as the theme for the event. That’s why we named our company Cooking by the Book…

For our 2009 kick-off event we will cook from Cooking by James Peterson.

James is a multiple James Beard Award winning author and we are thrilled that he will be here to sign his latest book Cooking.

At this event, you will first meet James Peterson over wine and appetizers, put your apron on then move to our showroom kitchen. There you will be divided into groups and prepare a full meal using James’ wonderful recipes. After your kitchen stint, you’ll enjoy consuming these fantastic dishes.
